The article is devoted to a detailed description of one of the main holidays of the Karachays – "the Day of the revival of the Karachay people". Those who went through the deportation and their descendants see the returning as the reestablish-ment of justice.
The author discusses the celebration of this day in Karachay-Cherkessia and St. Petersburg. Even living dispersed and far from the Caucasus, the Karachays gather in a predetermined place to commemorate the arrival of the first train from the lands of exile.
The purpose of the study was to describe and analyze the celebration of the Day of the revival of the Karachay people and its role in modern Karachay society.
The article provides examples that demonstrate the ethnosocial role of cele-brating the revival of the Karachay people.
The author gives a detailed description of the celebration in Karachay-Cherkessia and in St. Petersburg and considers some local differences. The artice argues that the holiday is an instrument of the internal unity of the Karachays in both regions.
Based on the results of the study, the main conclusion is that the celebration of the Revival Day of the Karachay people, being a modern holiday associated with recent events, is included in the circle of other, more traditional, holidays and feasts, and
also, like them, plays an important role in maintaining and strengthen-ing intra-Karachay solidarity and maintaining the Karachay identity.
